PARTICIPANTS AGREEMENT
The organising collective has set out the following guidelines to promote a safe, open and supportive environment at SoS. We ask you to consider these guidelines and think about the impact of your behaviour on other participants and the future of SoS. As a conference run entirely by volunteers, SoS depends on participants taking responsibility for themselves and their needs and taking care of each other.
In coming to SoS I agree to:
- Respect that SoS is a sober conference, with the exception of Decafe, and Scholars Bar, and consider the impact of intoxication on those around me.
- Try to be conscious of my own needs and communicate them while also being attentive to and respecting the needs of others. Be aware of the extra needs of the family camping area
- Challenge inappropriate and oppressive behaviour, including my own, and support people to challenge their own behaviour.
- Try to be aware of my own privileges, which may include: race, class, gender, age, sexuality, experience and ability and try to challenge them.
- Be aware of the effect I may be having on others around me, including their personal space boundaries. Try to notice how much I speak in meetings, workshops, and discussions. Try to listen to those whose voices are heard less often.
- Respect the varied ways by which people participate in SoS.
- Participate in the running of the conference by attending my volunteer shifts.
- Take responsibility for any tasks or issues that I identify, notifying the volunteer co-ordinators, organising collective, safety monitors or grievance crew where appropriate.
- Clean up after myself and leave spaces in equal or better condition as found.
- Remember that there will be one action planned collectively for SoS, and any other actions may have an impact on local campaigns and the future of SoS.
- Respect the Sacred Fire- see guidelines in general info
- If you are a smoker please be mindful of non-smokers around you
